How to count characters in text online?

When I was a copywriter, I used several services for these purposes, which I will talk about today.

1. ZnakoCounter- a convenient online script for counting characters, words, commas. It also has some interesting additional features:

Convert text to lower case. That is, if you insert text printed in capital letters (CapsLock), when you select this option and click the "Calculate" button, the script will convert your text to normal.
Removing extra spaces. I sometimes sin with them when I type quickly, it’s not very noticeable in Word, but here you can easily clean up the excess.
Counting without HTML and PHP tags, removing these tags.
And mini SEO analysis – you can select the “display top 10 keywords” function, that is, the words that are most often repeated in your text.

At the output, we get such an analysis of the text (displayed on the side, on the right).

2. Text.ru- a large service, with different tools for checking the text. The main tool is the uniqueness check. The counting of characters with and without spaces, words occurs immediately when we add text to a special field, without pressing the "Check for uniqueness" button.

Search for mixed words or words in different keyboard layouts

This parameter shows the number of words consisting of letters of different alphabets. Often these are letters of the Russian and English languages, for example, the word "table", where "o" is a letter of the English alphabet. Some copywriters replace part of the letters in Russian words with English ones in order to fraudulently increase the uniqueness of the text.

If you need to count the number of characters in cells, use the LEN function - which counts letters, numbers, signs, and all spaces. For example, the length of "It's 98 degrees today, so I'll go swimming" (excluding the quote) is 42 characters - 31 letters, 2 numbers, 8 spaces, a comma and 2 apostrophes.

To use the function, enter = DLSTR (cell) in the formula bar, press Enter on your keyboard.

Multiple cells: To apply the same formula to multiple cells, enter the formula in the first cell, and then drag the fill handle down (or across) the range of cells.

To get the total number of characters in multiple cells is to use the sum functions along with DLSTR. In this example, the LEN function counts the number of characters in each cell, and the sum function adds the counters:

= SUM ((function LEN ( cell1 ), function LEN ( cell2 ), (function LEN ( cell3 )) )) .

The following are some examples of how the DLSTR function works.

Copy the table below and paste it into cell A1 on your Excel sheet. Drag the formula from cell B2 B4 to see the text length in all cells in column A.

Counting characters in one cell

    Click cell B2.

    Enter formula \u003d DLSTR (a2).

The formula counts the characters in cell A2, 27 "Total", which contains all spaces and the period at the end of the sentence.

Note: DLSTR counts spaces after the last character.

Character count v multiple cells

    Click cell B2.

    Press Ctrl+C to copy cell B2 and then select cells B3 and B4 and press Ctrl+V to paste the formula into cells B3:B4.

This formula will be copied into cells B3 and B4 and the function will count the characters in each cell (20 27 and 45).

Counting the total number of characters

    In the sample workbook, click cell B6.

    Enter a formula in a cell =SUM(LIN(A2),LIN(A3),LIN(A4)) and press Enter.
