As a symbol of victory over fascism.

The history of the creation of the St. George ribbon Balatsenko N.V.

St. George's ribbon - bicolor (two colors) of orange and black.

It traces its history from the ribbon to the soldier's Order of St. George the Victorious, established on November 26, 1769 by Empress Catherine II.

This ribbon, with minor changes, entered the USSR award system as the “Guards Ribbon” - a sign of special distinction for a soldier. The block of the very honorable “soldier’s” Order of Glory is covered with it.

The black color of the ribbon means smoke, and the orange color means flame.

In our time, an interesting tradition has emerged associated with this ancient symbol. Young people, on the eve of the Victory Day holiday, tie a St. George's flower on their clothes as a sign of respect, memory and solidarity with the heroic Russian soldiers who defended the freedom of our country in the distant 40s.

The “St. George Ribbon” campaign began its existence in 2005 and was dedicated to the 60th anniversary Great victory. Over the past 5 years, the campaign has gained unprecedented momentum. Every year more and more government and commercial organizations in 30 countries of the world participate in it.

The purpose of creating such a symbol was the desire of the organizers to preserve for present and future generations the memory of the hardest years of the war, of those people who, with their labor and fortitude, achieved this Victory, of those 27 million Soviet citizens who laid down their lives to save the country and the freedom of future generations.

The “St. George Ribbon” has become a symbol of memory. It occupies the most honorable place among numerous domestic awards. The Order of St. George was given only for specific feats in wartime “to those who ... distinguished themselves by a particularly courageous act or were wise and for our military service useful tips" This was an exceptional military award. The black and orange colors of the St. George Ribbon have become a symbol of military valor and glory. Its color scheme is well known to everyone; it was used to create one of the main awards of the Great Patriotic War - the “Order of Glory”. After 1917, traditional Russian military awards were banned, however, during the Great Patriotic War, the St. George Ribbon returned to the army as the “Guards Ribbon” along with other attributes of our national military culture - the old military ranks, officer's shoulder straps.
