So, how will our partners be useful to you?

Why should a student learn Russian for 11 years, if you can prepare for the exam in a few months

Children have forgotten how to write correctly, parents and teachers complain. And even the culprit was immediately found - a computer. To communicate in instant messengers and chats, you do not need smart detailed phrases (no one will even read them to the end), it is much more important to be able to fit a thought into the allotted number of characters. And if you suddenly need to write a long text, then for this there is Word, which will highlight all the mistakes and suggest the correct option. Why, then, learn all these rules and torture yourself with exercises? Is it possible to prepare for the Unified State Exam in Russian in a few months? And will anyone else write with pen on paper in the future?

This is our conversation with Yulia Fishman, the creator of the portal "I can write", which this year entered the top hundred of the best organizations of continuing education in Russia.

Yulia Petrovna, do you also think that the literacy rate is falling dramatically?

Julia Fishman: Falls down. And it's not only about spelling and punctuation, but about the ability to express your thoughts orally and in writing.

Pupils are forced to write an essay, but they have absolutely nothing to say because they read little. And if they do, then not everyone and not always understand what they read, because they do not know the story. How to understand "Borodino" if you know nothing about Napoleon?

Sometimes text analysis has to start with highlighting replicas with colored markers. So that an 11th grade student can count the number of heroes by colors. And only then we find out what exactly the characters are saying. And children are not stupid.

Everything, of course, depends on a particular school, a particular teacher, but I get the impression that many in schools have not even tried to teach. Children cannot write down thoughts on paper, especially observing spelling and stylistic norms. It is difficult to delve into the meaning of the text, if it is not a caption to the picture in the presentation.

If we talk about literacy as a combination of all these elements, then the situation is close to catastrophic. And if only about spelling, then everything is not so bad. Here are parents who scold Word, and I usually say: "And, thank God, it emphasizes"... If a child is not taught at school, then at least on the computer screen he will see the correctly written word. Perhaps he will even remember.

At one time, children in school were really taught to answer only test questions. But recently they returned the required essay, and test items the exams are getting smaller.

Julia Fishman: Have you seen the criteria for evaluating essays? Five mistakes on 100 words - means, in the average essay (300 words) can be admitted 15 errors and get credit. Earlier for 3-4 errors in an essay on 600 words put triples.

And in the exam, according to the Russian criterion, it is even worse. You can safely prepare for the exam in a year. And if you really need it, then in two or three months. And a completely illiterate student will receive a score above average. He will just understand how to fill out the test correctly. And how in this situation can you explain to someone that you need to form the skill of competent writing? What for? This will not be asked anywhere: not at the exam, not at the university, not at work. In 10 years, modern schoolchildren will become parents themselves. And they will no longer send children to tutors and force them to do exercises. They will say: “I don’t know, and everything is fine”... A generation is already starting to work in schools "Victims of the exam" as I call it. Those who took the Unified State Exam graduated from teacher training colleges and became teachers. Some of them sincerely believe that the test is the best test of knowledge, that it is impossible to write competently, and they will prepare for the Unified State Exam.

Unfortunately, literacy is disappearing as a value.

Is she needed? Word will correct everything, the Internet will tell you, you don't even need to type anything in the search line, it's enough just to say ...

Julia Fishman: I noticed that when they talk about the person of the future, his competencies, literacy is generally silent. The ability to work effectively in a team is much more appreciated. Indeed, short news texts are now written by robots, lecturers and teachers are generally a thing of the past, a competent letter is not needed for understanding within a team, and so on. For whatever it is, literacy itself seems to be unnecessary in the future. But if we refuse it, we will get the bottom cube from the pyramid.

When forming a competent letter, a lot of body mechanisms are turned on, important neural connections arise.

If you remove this cube, everything else will begin to crumble right away: thinking, reading comprehension, and communication speed will slow down. As a result, the people of the future will not be able to work on projects in effective teams.

The Americans conducted an experiment. They tried to teach children not to write with a pen, but immediately type on the keyboard. As a result, the experimental class showed poor results in all subjects. It turned out that when children are just typing, the brain works differently and a significant part of the information, even on oral subjects, is simply not assimilated. The experiment was terminated.

And I want people for whom literacy has at least some value to be able to study somewhere and teach their children, if their school did not solve such a problem. That is why I created my own site “I can write”. So that students can learn, and teachers can share experiences.

Did you manage to realize your plans?

Julia Fishman: Yes. But not everyone really wants to learn and teach. Schoolchildren, for example, come to the portal mainly for freebies. Why are you tormenting us with all sorts of difficulties? Why do we need to teach these rules? Give us a set of life hacks to help you pass the exams. Give ready-made solutions, and we will just write off. Sometimes it gets ridiculous. On the forum, we check the compositions of users for free. Half of the compositions are copy-paste. Why send someone else's compositions for review is completely incomprehensible. Some even manage to send essays under their own names, taken from our own forum. Whom are they kidding?

Some teachers do the same. In the chat, the consultant is constantly asked where to download the lesson notes. We have described different techniques works, sets of materials are given. But I think that it is up to the teacher himself to choose what is necessary from this, meaningfully integrate it into the lesson. However, site users often insist that they be given everything ready.

You offer links to materials, they are also offended: “So you have to choose there. Highlight the paragraph I want. "

At school, activities are imitated: some are supposedly taught using ready-made notes, while others are supposedly performing tasks using GDZ and essay templates. Then exams are held in which literacy is supposedly checked.

I am very happy when colleagues appear on the site who, despite this situation, honestly work, when students appear who really study, and do not ask to cheat. It makes sense to do something for them.

Tell me, does innate literacy exist or can anyone develop this skill?
Julia Fishman: Congenital literacy is explained by the fact that a child under the age of 8 reads a lot by syllables, pronounces words, so his spelling reading skill is formed. If this skill is developed, the person will write correctly. But it seems to me that everything is not so simple. My son immediately began to write competently, although no one trained him on purpose. But I still struggle with my illiteracy ( laughs). Having looked at my school notebooks already at a conscious age, I realized that I was dysgraphic. But in those years, schools did not know such a diagnosis, no one was involved in correction, they just scolded for inattention.

They say that today almost every tenth is dysgraphic.

Julia Fishman: If not every fifth. I judge from conversations with parents and teachers. Maybe something has changed in ecology, or they have begun to teach differently, but something definitely went wrong. Good teachers primary grades it is necessary to retrain, so that they give children more corrective or at least prevent dysgraphia exercises.

Julia Fishman: Do not force children to endlessly rewrite the exercises or write dictations every day. If a child makes the same mistakes every day, this is not learning. Do more exercises that really teach rather than test. All these "Copy and paste a letter", "Write under dictation"- control. First, show your child the correctly spelled word several times in the games. Only after that ask to write the words separately under dictation, then the same words in the text.

I have a lot of tutorial exercises on my site. For example, you need to divide words into two groups: one with the letter A, and in the other - with O... Moreover, the child sees these letters. Yes, this is a giveaway game, yes, you don’t have to think, but it works because the child visually memorizes words. In the "Useful" section, you can create cards for games "Sea battle", "Couples","Lotto".

Here's an exercise for adults. In the lower right corner of almost all the pages of "I can write" there is a round "Learn 15 words"... From the spelling dictionary for high school randomly selected 15 words that appear on the screen one by one. You need to look at them 5-7 minutes... If you do this exercise regularly, I assure you, you will become more literate in writing.
