Traditionally, one of the first places in the FASHION theme of the “Hearts of Iron” series is occupied by the first World War. And in the early games, mods were molded under it, and in the later ones, and in parallel ones. What is there! One of the parallel games, “Darkest Hour,” actually came out with a First World War scenario. It would be foolish to assume that “Hearts of Iron IV” will do without a modification about the First World War.

We had no idea. And here you go, the beta version of the mod for “Hearts of Iron IV” - “The Great War” is already available for downloading and testing. Of course, the product is still far from complete, much less from ideal, but it is already quite digestible. The main features of the global conflict can be seen quite clearly in it.

First of all, the scripts. There are two of them. The first one starts on May 1, 1910 - this is for those who like to thoroughly prepare for war. The second begins on May 1, 1914 - for those who prefer to immediately get involved in a fight. The ending is not defined, but the technology tree is written right up to 1946. That is, we have thirty years, at least. I am sure that such a period will not be needed by experienced military generals who will turn the planet upside down in a matter of years. But you must admit, a rich supply of time allows even limitrophes to feel comfortable.

Let's take a closer look at some elements of The Great War mod.

Map. Redrawn. States redistributed lands and provinces. There are not only the main characters First World War, but the entire globe. In general, the work here is roughly done. ABOUT! Even the soldier figures are adapted to the era, and do not brandish PPSh-type machine guns, causing gas attack near Ypres. A very pleasant moment.

Technology tree. In general, it exists as it should. It has already been noted that it was registered from 1900 to 1946. That is, everything here is above the roof. However, nothing really had to be changed. The main emphasis was on extending the lines towards 1900. And so everything is in its place - infantry, artillery, tanks, planes, and ships. They just don’t all appear at once and, what’s nice, there are visually much more types of equipment and troops.

Let's take tanks for example. The line starts in 1910 with the first armored car. The tanks themselves, or rather, their development, were unlocked between 1913 and 1916. From this moment on, the branch splits into two parallel ones - armored vehicles and, in fact, tanks. The first heavy tank was in 1916, the first light tank was in 1917. Everything is according to history.

Likewise with airplanes, opening in 1912. This branch is supplemented by large aircraft - airships. Perhaps they did not play a decisive role in the First World War, but they were used very actively both for reconnaissance and bombing.

It will be nice to drive large surface vessels across the sea in the conditions of the First World War. There are plenty of these here too. And there is no danger from the sky for you. True, the European war will still be decided on land. But megabattles of battleships are quite possible.

What fundamental points have we not touched on yet? National tricks, right? This element has also been roughly reworked. Exactly what it is. The new tricks themselves already exist. Even with pictures. Signatures to them are still in technical language. But these are the costs of the beta version. Either we wait endlessly for the varnished version, or we rush into it with excitement right now. I have not delved deeply into the essence of all the changes, but it seems that somewhere here even events are buried that could lead to revolution and civil war in Russia.

In general, of course, it is clear that work on the final version of the “The Great War” mod for “Hearts of Iron IV” has not yet been done. But the most impatient players may well satisfy their passion for new sensations.

Moreover, between you and me, I personally see the game mechanics of HOI-IV as ideally suited for the First World War and the interwar period. And in general, if you choose a mod, then a historical theme looks preferable than an alternative one with all sorts of survivors of the Russian Empire, the Ottoman Empire, with a victorious Germany or with the collapsed USA. If we talk about alternative history, then it’s much more pleasant to create it with your own hands.

One of the most popular mods for Hearts of Iron IV still could not migrate to our site. Well, thanks to a site visitor who noticed that we don’t yet have a mod about the First World War, it finally appears!

The Great War describes with historical accuracy the events of the Great War between the member countries of the Entente and the Triple Alliance. The war, which has gone down in history as the most brutal and inhumane, can now take up a lot of time for each of us while playing Hearts of Iron.

Two starting scenarios.

  • 1910 - The Powderkeg of Europe. Lead your nation through the Balkan Wars and the Agadir Crisis along a road that will soon lead to the most brutal war on Earth.
  • 1914 - The Great War. We are thrown straight into the thick of the historical First World War. Will you be able to avoid historical mistakes or will you find yourself in an even bigger trap? We'll see.

Updated 04/14/2019- compatibility with 1.6.4 and minor changes.

Previous updates

Updated 01/21/2019- patches for 1.6. Both files have been updated.

Updated 01/06/2019- big patch 0.6. There's a lot of stuff there - you can look it up in the Steam changelogs. Both versions have been updated.

Updated 11/17/2018— some kind of patch came out (in both versions).

Updated 08/13/2018- added a new version fashion with improved localization.

Updated 07/02/2018— compatibility with 1.5.4 + fixes and corrections.

Updated 05/12/2018— new generals, technologies, events and focuses. Multiple fixes, improvements, corrections and a pinch of optimization. Compatible with version 1.5.2 (but should work without problems on all 1.5 versions).

Installation (for both pirates and licenses):

  1. The archived file should be moved to ...\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\mod). If there is no mod folder, create it.
  2. The .mod file should be placed similarly in ...\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Hearts of Iron IV\mod\).
  3. Now you need to open the .mod file with any text editor (for example, Notepad/Notepad++ or another) and change the text after path so that instead of
path=”workshop/content/281990/12345678/nazvanie_moda.zip” it turned out like this - path=”mod/nazvanie_moda.zip”
  4. Activate the mod in the launcher. That's it, no complications!

Problems during installation?

According to my testing, this installation method should work. It is easier and more reliable for license holders to follow the link from the source and download there.

Sometimes it happens that a file with permission .mod disappears after being copied to the /mod folder. In this case, simply check the “Read Only” checkbox in the properties of this file.

A hundred years ago, a war broke out in Europe that changed the world as we know it. Men were forced to leave their homes, farms and apartments to fight in seemingly endless trenches, gaining meter after meter of ground at the cost of numerous casualties.

Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War puts you in the position of one of the countries of the world during the First World War. In an era where the stakes were high and the risks were even higher, you will need to tread carefully when it comes to diplomacy. A simple mistake or bluff taken too far could mean the death of millions.

Of course, this doesn't mean that the coming war is the only thing on everyone's mind. Revolutions are breaking out in China and Mexico, Italy is rumored to have plans to take over Libya, and the Balkan states are apparently uniting against one of their “neighbors.” Without these conflicts around the world, the great powers will not have all the reasons to have fun.

The fighting was modeled to more closely match the nature of the First World War. Infantry will rule the battlefield at the start of a conflict, before aircraft and armored cars take to the field in large quantities. Trench systems tear across the face of Europe until the mad engineer's dream, the Tank, emerges from the workshop and onto the battlefield. All the while, fleets of huge dreadnoughts will sail the oceans, fighting to wrest control of the waters.

With elaborate national focuses that delve deep into alternate history, you may find that two games for the same country end up completely differently. What if the French socialists start civil war during riots? What if Italy decided to take a different line and join the Central Powers? In Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War, the slightest difference can change everything.

Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War, of course, is meant to try to emulate how Paradox themselves might have developed this scenario, so veterans of World War II and the Hearts of Iron franchise will have no problem getting into the swing of things. Even the new models, sounds and animations are designed to Paradox standards. You will be drawn into the game so quickly that, without having time to look back, you will feel like a shell-shocked soldier in a trench.

We present to you a completely new game Hearts of Iron 4, the torrent of which you can download for free right on this page. This is the last of the games in the famous series about the events of the Second World War, but it differs significantly from all previous parts both in its capabilities and in its improved and updated gameplay.

Game process

As usual in the military global conflict There are three parties involved, whose ideologies are fascism, communism and democracy. But besides them, a fourth side appeared in this game - a neutral one. This includes small states, such as Poland or Yugoslavia, which are trying to somehow stay afloat in these troubled and terrible times. Players become the leaders of any of the states represented in the game and try to lead it to victory or prevent themselves from being captured. In addition, if you decide to download Hearts of Iron 4 via torrent, then you will not only have to fight, but also develop other aspects public policy In your country. Particular attention should be paid to the development of production and trade, because war is war, and civilians are not to blame for anything and they also need to exist somehow. Also, conducting diplomatic negotiations plays a significant role in successfully consolidating one’s position among other powers. If you can find a balance among these areas of your government activities and combine them harmoniously with each other, then you will become a great politician who will write new lines in world history.

Gameplay Features

You will also need to fight wisely, devoting more time than usual to developing a detailed strategy, distributing your troops and equipment, determining their routes of movement, etc. To do this, you are provided with a huge map of the world, on which you can visually track all this and plot the locations of military strikes or the trajectory of advance. Such visibility is very useful, and such planning looks very impressive. It is necessary to strike the enemy not only with the help of ground equipment, but also from the air, as well as from water. This way there will be a greater effect of surprise, and in numbers it will be possible to suppress the enemy. But everything will again depend on the country you want to lead. We certainly recommend downloading Hearts of Iron 4 via torrent in order to fully demonstrate your bright talents as a strategist and competent politician, and not just a martinet.

Features of Hearts of Iron 4

The game has a number of features that set it apart from a number of similar games:

  • Material support, production and politics. All these directions, with the addition of military action, must develop in complete harmony and balance if you want your people not to grumble. Pay sufficient attention to each aspect of the development of the state.
  • Neutrality. The fourth side, which you can accept, involves non-interference in hostilities between the other three sides and a peaceful existence. But everything is not as simple as it seems. You may be forced into conflict by others, more strong states, and at the same time, according to the rules of the game, you yourself cannot spread your ideology.
  • Capture hearts and minds. For the first time among similar games, the idea appeared here that you need to win victories not only on the battlefields, but also with the help of ideology and other moral aspects, forcing your people to believe you and support your worldview.
  • World map. On it you can put arrows and signs reflecting the location of the planned battle, the balance of forces and the movement of troops. Pay attention to the terrain and weather conditions.

One hundred years ago, a war in Europe erupted which would change the world as we know it. Men were forced out of their homes, from their farms and apartments, to fight in seemingly neverending trenches, gaining meters and meters of ground a day at the cost of massive casualties.

Hearts of Iron IV: The Great War, an overhaul mod for Hearts of Iron IV, puts you in the position of one of the countries of the world in World War One"s time period. In an era where the stakes were high and risks even higher, you"ll have to tread lightly when it comes to diplomacy. A single mistake or a single bluff gone too far could mean the deaths of millions.

Of course, that"s not to say that the Great War is the only thing on anyone"s minds. Revolution is flaring up in China and Mexico, Italy is rumored to have designs on taking Libya, and the Balkan States seem to be banding closer against one of their foreign targets. With all this conflict across the world, the Great Powers alone won't be having all of the fun.

The War itself has been modeled to match more closely the flow and style of war of World War I. Infantry virtually alone will rule the Battlefield at the beginning of the Conflict, before Planes and Armored Cars will take the field in good numbers. Trench Systems will see construction throughout Europe, until a mad engineer's dream, the Tank, rolls out of the factory and onto the Battlefield. All the while, massive fleets of massive Dreadnoughts will fill the Oceans, with all sides vying to wrest control of the waters.

With elaborate National Focus trees that delve deep into Alternate History, you may find two games with the same country ends up completely differently. What if French Socialists began a great civil war during the mutinies? What if Italy decided to go hardline and fight with the Central Powers? In this Mod, the smallest divergences can change everything.

The Great War Mod, of course, is designed to attempt to emulate how Paradox themselves would have designed the scenario, so veterans of the World War II scenario and of the Hearts of Iron franchise will have no trouble adjusting. Even the new models, sounds, and animations are designed with Paradox's standards in mind. You may just settle into the game so quickly, you"ll wind up with trench foot and shell shock before you realize it.
