New Year's city

Mac parked the dark car near the supermarket, turned off the engine and took the keys out of the ignition. He got out of the car, slammed the door and breathed in the frosty air, filled with the aromas of peanuts fried in sugar, which were being sold from a stall nearby.

A tall, rosy-cheeked hawker in a thick sheepskin coat and a red cap with a white fluffy tassel at the end cheerfully and loudly called out to passers-by:

Try it, hot, sweet! Just a copper coin for two bags! Straight from the fryer!

It smelled really good. It wasn't that Mac liked peanuts - it was the atmosphere itself that was captivating.

Six in the evening - completely dark.

Multi-colored light bulbs attached along the perimeter of the trailer cast multi-colored spots on the snow: sometimes blue and yellow, sometimes red, sometimes greenish mixed with purple. The frost pinched my cheeks and ears, but didn’t bite, it was more teasing: “Look, it’s winter all around! It’s great.”

People hurried to the shops, and from the shops to their homes. Cheerful, cheerful, in high spirits and with smiles on their faces. Voices rang, packages rustled, music played. Everyone was grateful to winter for having mercy, hiding its prickly fingers in soft mittens and replacing the frost with soft fluffy snow falling from the dark sky.

For a while, Chaser simply stood, looking up into the darkness, from where fluffy needle-like flakes silently and leisurely fell, and when his dark hair was covered with a white skullcap, he shook his head - snowflakes scattered over his shoulders.

The liquor store was on the corner; The snow compressed by the soles crunched under the boots.

My soul felt light and pleasant, as it should be on a holiday. Drake said there is no urgent matter, you can relax and unwind; A large party at Ren's house was scheduled for eight, with almost two hours left.

The windows shone and shimmered - that night many shops would be open until the morning. There were a lot of people who wanted to run for more alcohol on other days, and even more so today. Plus more gifts that someone remembered at the last moment; wrap it all, pack it, wrap it and decorate it with ribbons so that it shines brightly and pleases the eye.

The snow creaked peacefully underfoot, the cold had not yet managed to get under the jacket - that very moment when for no reason you want to stay outside longer. Walk around, admire the people and houses around. In six hours, the sky will be colored with colorful, noisy fireworks, firecrackers will explode, fireworks will bloom, voices will shout in greeting, welcoming the New Year, and glasses will rise up. In the meantime, everything around is a little agitated, but still calm and peaceful.

A flock of young girls suddenly turned towards Mack, as if they had appeared out of thin air. Dressed up, ringing, excited - just five girlfriends, and judging by the friendly laughter and jokes, a little tipsy.

Allerton, out of professional habit, quickly visually scanned the faces and figures, put what he saw into memory (God willing, it won’t be needed) and stepped to the right, closer to the road, to let the group of girls pass.

But as it turned out, this was not the case. The company, peering intently at him with five pairs of eyes and tugging at each other's sleeves, synchronously stepped in the same direction, provoking a quick collision. Mack stepped to the left - the company immediately flowed towards him. There was whispering and laughter. And then something completely unexpected. When they got closer, the girls surrounded him from all sides, not allowing him passage, and squealed in rivalry:

Mister... young and handsome, you don’t have a ring on your finger, do you?

Please don't refuse us...

And we had an argument!

Yes, yes... we argued...

Yes, yes, and Katie lost! And whoever loses must kiss the first man he meets! Well, without a ring, of course... You don’t have one, do you?

First, I had to forcibly quiet the alarm signal that had arisen in my trained body, then lower my raised eyebrows, and then try not to laugh out loud. Mac coped with the first, and the second, and the third. Although, I must admit, it was not easy, especially when there were so many female faces They carefully examine your fingers for an indicator of the presence of a second half in your life.

No! - the bachelorette party almost exclaimed in unison, after which he pushed the deeply blushing pretty girl in the direction of the tall stranger. From under a knitted hat trimmed with fur, wide, shiny eyes, a snub nose, and lips bitten from embarrassment looked out.

Here, Katie, this is your first person! Keep your promise! Kiss!

The flock hummed, giggled, whispered and watched with bated breath as Katie, flushed like ketchup, did not dare step towards the dark-haired guy with attentive greenish-brown eyes, reminiscent of a warrior, despite the modern cut of his jacket.

She thought with a sinking heart that an old man would be better! Or what a wimp, to kiss, get rid of the promise and run on to walk with the girls, but no, he managed to stumble upon such a tall, broad-shouldered and... handsome. Katie had never met anyone like this before, and therefore she instantly became timid, and her knees became weak.

Passersby glanced at their group - a man surrounded by girls - frozen at the window of a gift shop with interest. Chaser mentally grinned, looking at the girl with the bowl eyes, who had forgotten how to move, pushed forward by her comrades. The comrades themselves gathered a step behind her, huddled, crowded spectators in the amphitheater, hungry for nerve-wracking events. And this one, in red mittens, like a lost lamb given to the wolf for slaughter, now stood with her head raised up with a mixture of sacred horror and anticipation in her eyes.

Mac was having a lot of fun. These are weirdos!

Having guessed that the mountain standing in front of him would not reach Magomed by next year, Chaser himself took a step forward - the spectators gasped in unison; Katie, trying to appear brave, managed to bravely stand her ground. A second later, a man’s hand reached out to her face, the thumb carefully walked over her lower lip, lightly pressed on her chin, and as soon as her lips parted, they were immediately covered by the man’s.
