The university, which was originally called Perm State Institute of Culture, was created in 1975 year. The purpose of its creation was to realize the possibility of training professional personnel for regional cultural institutions: heads of cultural centers and clubs, librarians, organizers and hosts of holidays, musicians, choreographers. The first rector of the institute was Zinaida Vorobyova, who led the university for 21 years. From 1996 to 2013 The leadership of the university was carried out by a professor Evgeniy Malyanov.
In 2013, our educational institution received a new status. It became known as Perm State Academy of Art and Culture. Since 2002, a full range of professional musical arts specialties has opened: musicology and musical applied art, musical instrumental art, vocal art, conducting, musical theater art, and the art of concert performance.
In 2011, the university opened a master’s program in the field of training “Cultural Studies”.
Since 2011, cooperation with foreign institutions has been successfully developing, namely: Leibniz University (Hannover, Germany) - exchanges of students involved in restoration are carried out historical memory; Czech-Central Asian Chamber of Commerce - carries out mediation work in organizing academic and creative exchanges between the European Union, the countries of the former CIS and Asian countries. In 2013, the university received a new impetus for development. Cooperation agreements were concluded with 4 foreign universities and creative centers: Norwegian ballet school, North Asian University of Nationalities (Lanzhou, China), Russian-French Association "Sunsibury", Hannover University. Leibniz (Germany). In October 2013, the institute was admitted to the European Association of Conservatories as an active member. Thanks to this, 14 PGIK students completed internships in Germany and China, and 7 are currently studying at the university foreign students from Syria, Cuba, Italy, Belarus, Armenia. It is expected that there will be more foreign students in the near future.
During 2013, a new effective management structure was created at the university. The rectorate system has been optimized, a department for scientific and innovation activities, project management, a concert and theater department, a department for extracurricular activities, and a press service have appeared.

Academy of Creativity at PGAIK for more than 20 years. Created in 1992 Musical and aesthetic center for children aged 2 to 6 years was one of the first institutions in Perm additional education for early children preschool age, which is based on the idea of an integrated approach to the formation of an integral, harmonious developed personality. Scientific and educational center for theatrical art of the Perm region (TEACENTR) opened at the Perm State Academy of Art and Culture in 2007. Faculty of Arts
The Faculty of Arts is the youngest in the institute, it has existed since 1991. Its creation was a response to the urgent need in the professional art sector of the region for qualified personnel with higher education. Faculty with 2003 headed by dean associate professor, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences , musicologist Ekaterina Viktorovna Batalina-Korneva.
Faculty of Arts and Pedagogy
The Faculty of Arts and Pedagogy is organized in 1990. At the faculty, students are trained in specialty No. 071301 “Folk artistic creativity”. Graduates of the faculty successfully work in cultural institutions of the Perm region and beyond. The best graduates were awarded honorary titles and prizes for their contribution to the development of the culture of the region and the state.
